A Nation of Guinea Pigs

Yesterday we were watching Constant Gardner. This movie is based on a novel by John le Carré . It deals with how big pharmaceutical companies are using third world countries as guinea pig without their knowledge by bribing the corrupt politicians.

and then when i was browsing through "Wired magazine" i found this article. Although its only available in print edition. Here is the synopsis of that article.
There's a new outsourcing boom in South Asia - and a billion people are
jockeying for the jobs. How India became the global hot spot for drug trials

After doing some googling on web i found following articles.
India gearing up to be hotspot for drug R&D
Outsourcing clinical trials to India rash and risky, critics warn
India's clinical trials and tribulations

Movies: Mangal Pandey - Rising... or Falling

Oh my god... what a crap .. that too from a perfectionist named "Aamir Khan" and director of artistic movies like "Mirch MAsala" & "Bhavani Bhivai"..
Well, I shouldnt be surprised though, as those gems are from a distant past... now he is more of types" Aar ya Paar" or "Maaya Memsab".
Coming to this movie.. i could not watch it more than 20/40 minutes.. The whole scene where Mangal and Captain Gordon become friends is so flimsy.. its surprising after the perfect shots of Lagaan.
During Oscar campaigns there was a rumour that "aamir" himself ghost directed "Lagaan". But its perfectly clear that it was a RUMOUR after beautiful treatment of "Swades" and this crap.
Why o why they have to show breastfeeding scenes? and what was the need to get so cheap with every female actress displaying her cleavage..and worst of all an item song???? come on.. not atleast in a patriotic movie..

Aamir - the perfectionist- doesnt look like Mangal from any angle.. his dialogue delivery is almost in the same tone of "Dil Chahata hai's" Aakash. And who wrote those dialogues?
I wonder why it took 4 years to make such a lousy movie? was it for the reason to give time to aamir to grow his moustache and hair??

What a match!!!

Wow.. this current Ashes series is turning out to be spectacular test case of What Cricket match is made up of.. No one sided / lop sided matches.. Each match is a nailbiter..
Certainly this Austrlian side is loosing its grip on World Champion Title. Will be interesting to see how the series goes on after a 10 days break..

In the mean time Shane Warne completed 600 test wickets.. Thats really something extra ordinary. Muralitharan is closing on him.. I dont see anyone from Indian team reaching this height.. Only last hero was Kapil Dev, who managed to get those 432 wickets and stay in the limelight for some time..

Movies : Yaaaaaawnnn

Finally saw Parineeta on DVD yesterday. Supriya(my wife) was forcing me to see it in theater. But after yesterday night, she felt that I did a wise thing by not listening to her ( well ..I would love to see her feeling like this often ;o)
It was an ok movie with a comical climax (director might be thinking this as his best shot). Songs are nice to listen but situation where they are inserted in the movie is awry ..
Movie is based on a novel by Saratchandra. As usual male protagonist of the movie is a rich young guy who has lot of free time to compose music, and play with Lolita . Some misunderstanding.. and finally they come together.

Another one I saw on weekend was DUS. This project was started by late Mukul Anand, but was left incomplete due to his sudden death. Now Anubhav Sinha took up the mantle to finish it. It has become a hit in India. I saw few reviews claiming it to be sleek hollywood style movie. Probably the guy has not seen proper hollywood movies. :) Pankaj Kapur has acted well, but at times you cant make out what he is saying.. we could get it due to subtitles.
Climax again is maha boring..you need patience to watch these movies..

May be its the same story with us Indians.. be it with Cricket or movies.. We dont know how to deliver a finishing punch...
